Introduction

 

The Financial Research and Trading Laboratory of IIM Calcutta and Indian Finance Association is organizing the first teaching summer school on Finance and Accounting during 23-28 April, 2018. This is a fully residential programme which will expose participants to the art of teaching by using relevant case studies. The topics are carefully chosen by experts and contain the following features:

  1. Teaching theoretical Concepts using real business problem based case studies.
  2. Discussion on the relevance of the theoretical concepts in Indian context.
  3. How to make teaching more effective for the potential managers.
  4. How to include research to update participants with the new developments.

Broad themes for module-I (Accounting) and Module-II (Finance) are:

Module-I (Accounting)

  1. An Introduction to Conceptual Framework of Corporate Financial Reporting
  2. Understanding  Financial Statements  and the inter-relationships
  3. Financial Statement Analysis
  4. Understanding Costs for Managerial Decision-making (CVP Analysis, Relevant Costing)
  5. Responsibility Accounting – Performance evaluation in Decentralized Organizations
  6. Activity Based Costing

 

Module-II (Finance)

  1. Capital Structure
  2. Cost of Capital
  3. Long-term Investment
  4. Long-term Financing
  5. Dividend Payout Policy
  6. Valuation of firms
  7. Investment Analysis
  8. Portfolio Management

Fee for Module-I (Accounting) is ₹ 10,000/- plus applicable GST for participants from India. The fee for overseas participants is US$ 300 per person.

Fee for Module-II (Finance) is ₹ 20,000/- plus applicable GST for participants from India. The fee for overseas participants is US$ 600 per person.

The fee would include course materials, accommodation on single occupancy basis and all meals. Last date of registration is 31st March, 2018.
